Your pet's sounds are read on your device

Barkly's core feature — listening to your dog or cat and reading their likely mood — runs entirely on your iPhone. That recorded audio is analyzed on-device, is not uploaded to our servers, and saved recordings live on your device. Delete them anytime.

Optional AI features that use the cloud

Some optional features send data to our secure service and trusted AI providers to create a result:

Talk with your pet — your typed message plus your pet's profile (name, species, breed, age, personality) and recent mood reads are sent to generate a playful, in-character reply and an AI voice. Processed by our service with OpenAI.
Body-language scan — the photo you capture is sent to read body language for a best-guess mood. The image is processed in memory and not stored. Processed with OpenAI.
AI portrait — the photo you choose is sent to paint an AI portrait of your pet. Processed with OpenAI (gpt-image). The portrait is stored briefly to deliver it to your app, then auto-deleted from our servers; the copy you keep lives on your device.

These features are optional — you choose when to use them. We send only what's needed, identify your app with a random device identifier (not your name or email), and do not sell your data or use your content to train our own AI models. Audio and portraits stored on our servers are automatically deleted within 30 days.

What we store

On your device: your pet's profile, saved reads, diary, training progress, and on-device calibration. Subscriptions are handled by Apple; we verify status to unlock premium and receive a subscription token, not your payment details.

What we do NOT do

We do not sell your data, do not upload your pet's on-device sound recordings, do not require an account, and do not use your content to train our own AI models.
